Default Marriage & Israelites understanding

I need to see if there is anyone that can help me to answer the following question:
Of the Israelite understanding of marriage, do you find any features that are still not widely accepted today? (say, in the way marriage is presented in movies or on television?)

thanks for any help anyone can give me.

How about the notion of more than one wife? Albeit you might want to start reading from the beginning of that chapter, in order to understand what I'm doing with the numbers. The basic point that I'm trying to make though, is that although Israel had four wives which, was kind of forced upon him, it all reflects the love he had towards Rachel, whom he truly loved.

By the way jpl258, Greetings and welcome to the Dionysus Forums!

The concept that the wife was property is probably the biggest one. Although I think Arch-Consrvatives still cling to this one
