In truth, physicists did know that Newton's theories were incomplete. They were the best description of the phenomena at the time, but they were not perfect, and this was known. When Einstein came along, his theory was (as 'Berry said) thoroughly examined, tested, poked and prodded, and because it did stand up to inquiry, it was accepted in a remarkably short time.

But...it seems to me that you are saying that god is self-evident. In other words, the evidence should be at least as strong as that which prompted Einstein to devise his theories! Ok, where is it? Or do you mean..."self-evident" in quotes...like...it is self-evident that the world is flat, or it is self-evident that the sun orbits the earth...?

If the fact that I'm alive and self-aware is not good enough for you, tough! If you're not sure what it means, look it up in the dictionary. I mean how would you even know you were here if you were not conscious? Don't you think that's the least bit important?
You use the words "conscious" and "self-aware" in these sentences immediately after I told you that you have never defined them...if they are self-evident, that should be easy. Or, again, they could be as self-evident at the flat earth. You will not know as long as you refuse to critically examine your assumptions.

By some definitions (I'll show you mine, if you show me yours *shush, Gooze!*), I am absolutely not conscious, because the term "conscious" is viewed as an explanatory fiction...and yet I know I am here. It is absolutely possible not to be conscious, and yet to see, feel, hear, think, remember, love, and "know I am here". Perhaps it is impossible by your definition, but we may never know. It rather depends on whether you actually tell us your definition.

Default Digital is 666?

Hey, do you know what's funny is I just incurred a data-base error on my server and yours was the last post before it occurred. And guess what? When I inquired about the problem with my domain server the status box said my web traffic was at 665 MB. And then when things finally came back online it went up to 666 MB. Isn't that weird?

It actually crashed during a post of mine. I cut the text and pasted it back in after it was back up again.

I have no problem being 666.

Oh, and I see that your post count is getting awfully close to 216. And you know what that means don't you? ... 6 x 6 x 6 = 216 ...

Could be. All I know is, I was replying in that thread, hit send, and the thing died. If you killed it before I hit send, I could not possibly know that from my own experience. Funny that way, experience is. Here I thought I had done Something Special, and you, from outside my experience, are telling me that it wasn't Something Special.

Gee, however shall I decide which to believe? My own experience, or somebody who has more expertise in running an internet forum than I do?

(aren't I mean, turning a forum crash into a lesson on the limits of personal experience? I am so bad sometimes.)

No, I was looking at the last post that posted before it crashed. So maybe it was you after all? Ha ha ha!

While I'm sure you noticed it crashed again didn't you? And this was shortly after I posted this thing about goozleberry above. Well, 10-15 minutes later anyway. Hmm ... [not to mention that it crashed once more when I first tried posting this]

Hey, I'm willing to take your word for it.

You are...with just my word. But you will not take a look at reams of actual evidence on the important topics...

whatever...
