Default What Does "Spirit" Mean?

From the JREF Forums thread, The Brain is the Cause of What Effect? ...

There are actually several definitions of spirit here. First of all you have the spiritual world itself, which exists in the spiritual dimension. Just as you and I now live in the material which, is part of the the material universe or, dimension. So this is one aspect of what spirit means. Another aspect would be that of our soul which, is our own spirit (compared to our material body in the material world) that ultimately resides in the spiritual world/dimension when we pass on. In other words it's our soul (as a spirit) which interacts with the spiritual world. A final aspect of the spirit would be the ultimate aspect itself, God, who rules above the heavens and earth and allows His Spirit to flow into all things. So we are all a part of God (His Spirit) in that respect. While it's this influx into all things which we deem as the Holy Spirit.

Is this a game? See who can make up the most definitions of spirit? Cool... Do they have to have any evidence whatsoever for them? How do you know about the ones you posted, or did you just make them up? Or did somebody tell you, and what made you believe that person?

Well, I figured you of all people might appreciate some sort of definition here. But then again, no? Hey, you never know, you might even find yourself referring to this thread from time to time? Or, if you don't then perhaps I will?

Cool! Do I get to make up definitions too? Okay there is an aspect of the spirit that grows as you body and brain grows, then dies when they die.

Then there is the aspect of the spirit that likes sardine and sharp cheddar cheese sandwiches.

Boy! This is fun!

I would love to see some sort of definition. But in your opening post, there were none.

See? you list a bunch of types of spirits, but do not define any of them. What is the spiritual world? What do you mean by spiritual dimension? (How can "dimension" be defined for non-physical things--or do you consider the spirit physical?)

I do not see how you can describe so many different spirits when you do not say what comprises a spirit or how it is you can "know" about one. So, yes, I would love to see some definitions. Let's start with what you, Iacchus, think a spirit is. Not what types there are--that assumes we already know what it is, and we do not.

Well, you'd be surprised how many folks don't even know this much about The Spirit.

This tells me nothing, Iacchus. Please define spirit, and tell me how you know. That is, if I understand it, the purpose of this thread.

The spiritual world is in many ways similar to the world we live in now, except that it exists in another dimension. This is really all I'm trying to say, and show that there are counterparts, say like our physical body in this world, and our spiritual body (which is our soul) in the spiritual world. A lot of people don't know this you see.

I would venture to say...even yourself.
